Amsterdam September 7, 2012 – IBC 2012, The RAI – ASSIMILATE, the leading provider of dailies and DI tools for digital cinema and broadcast workflows, today announced the next generation of its production dailies software, SCRATCH Lab® v7. In the rapidly evolving world of digital dailies, where the lines are blurring between production and post-production, SCRATCH Lab v7 empowers DITs and video engineers with the ultimate shot management and dailies workflow tool, enabling them to work at top efficiency and productivity at an amazingly affordable price.

The Advanced Dailies revolution reflects the rapidly changing digital production landscape for producers, DPs and DITs. Dailies have moved well beyond a simple process of backing up data from a single camera, pre-defined LUTs, and sending a disk to a facility for dailies processing. Producers and directors are aggressively looking for new ways to save time and money by moving tasks that were traditionally done in a post facility to on-set or near-set locations. SCRATCH Lab v7 is leading the Advanced Dailies revolution by meeting the highly complex challenges of managing media and metadata from any number of different cameras into a single timeline, quickly syncing audio whether you have accurate timecode or not, color correcting and creating looks in real-time, and providing wicked-fast rendering simultaneously for many different deliverable formats for review and editorial -- all on-location.

New SCRATCH Lab v7 delivers the features and performance demanded by Advanced Dailies workflows.

  • Organize your media any way you want: by reels or cards, by scene and take, or by camera type, and then visually represent all the media from a shoot in a single, ultimate timeline view
  • Flexibly manage any metadata and timecode, and even create it if need be
  • Access scene and take metadata globally through Lab's unique media browser, or in the context of a single shot via a new metadata stack
  • Clip name and reel ID file masking
  • Generate custom columns in metadata stack
  • View any track or output stack from player
  • Generate timecode and reel ID per contruct
  • Support for metadata burn-ins including:
    • Flash burns (ability to have metadata burn-ins appear over a specified number of frames)
    • Flash guides (same as flash burns, but with safe action/text and aspect guides)
  • Support for more real-time native camera formats than any other software, including RED Epic, ARRI Alexa, Sony F65, Canon C300, Phantom Miro, DSLR and GoPro
  • Advanced LUT support, including Cube LUT support and 3D LUTs via a browser

  • The most powerful audio sync in the industry, with multiple ways to sync audio because timecode is often wrong or missing:
    • Via timecode (if available and correct): Automatically generate timecode-frame offsets, or create timecode if necessary and then sync audio to it
    • Analyze the audio waveform and sync to the slate/clap: Support of audio to the microsecond, a very accurate way to sync if access to a good slate/clap
    • If no access to timecode or a slate/clap, use full manual control over the waveform to loop a video clip and manually sync audio to movement
  • Wicked-fast background rendering, eliminating the need for a dedicated render machine
  • Powerful and flexible means to set up templates to maximize efficiently and minimize mistakes

Avid Made Easy
With SCRATCH Lab v7, editors can decompose AAF and XML conforms, making round-trips to Avid and FCP editorial systems far easier. A conform from Avid AAF or FCP XML often times contain effects. Decompose allows editors to strip all effects and add handles. This avoids burning effects into your new media and the original effects can be applied again in the editing application after a round-trip.

New Subscription Model
ASSIMILATE is now offering Pay-As-You-Use and Site-License options to make access to SCRATCH Lab and SCRATCH more flexible and more cost-effective than ever. Artists are now able to subscribe to SCRATCH or SCRATCH Lab and activate their license for one day, one week, one month, or three months. In addition, facilities are able to license and use as many SCRATCH or Lab licenses as they need while paying one low annual fee (some restrictions apply). These facilities are now able to manage and license their SCRATCH systems from a new MY ASSIMILATE online portal available via www.assimilateinc.com.

Pricing and Availability
Both SCRATCH Lab v7 and SCRATCH v7 will be shipping in Q4, 2012. The price for SCRATCH remains unchanged at $20,995. Likewise, SCRATCH Lab is still priced at $5,990. Both prices include first year’s maintenance and support. The Pay-As-You-Use subscription option is available on the ASSIMILATE Store concurrent with the final release of SCRATCH Lab v7. Pricing for individual license activation will be as follows (all prices include maintenance and support during the activation period):

  • 1 Day - $50
  • 1 Week - $250
  • 1 Month - $650
  • 3 Months - $1,800

The Site License Subscription will also be available concurrent with the release of SCRATCH v7 and SCRATCH Lab v7, and will be priced at $33,000 USD, annually (includes all maintenance and support for the period).
